The story behind the work

A life built through
practice and purpose.

Martial artist. Coach. Trial attorney. Each chapter has shaped the way I compete, teach, and advocate.

Where it began

A lifelong student.

I began martial arts at age three, learning from my parents, Jill and Bob Leiker. That foundation grew into a competitive career spanning tournaments across the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Europe.

Along the way, I earned 33 professional world titles and three SKIL amateur world titles. My competitive disciplines included point sparring, traditional forms, and traditional, creative, and musical weapons.

The work of coming back

In 2005, I was diagnosed with spondylolisthesis and underwent a nine-hour spinal fusion. Returning to martial arts was uncertain. After two years of rehabilitation, I returned to competition in 2007 and went on to earn more world titles.

That experience is a defining part of my story—a reminder of the patience and work that progress can require.

Education

Expanding the arena.

I graduated summa cum laude from Rockhurst University in 2009, studying History, Political Science, and Business Administration. In 2013, I graduated from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law.

The work today

Helping others move forward.

I retired from open competition in October 2016 to focus on coaching the next generation. Today, I serve as COO of AmeriKick in Overland Park and Lenexa, Kansas, and as a founding member and Managing Partner of SWL Injury Lawyers in Kansas City.
